The more I think about it the more it makes sense for the new Melee DPS to be a swashbuckley type of class - currenlty we have two jobs for each melee DPS armor type... except scouting. So if they go with the idea of having two jobs for each melee armor type then, that means the new job would have to be something that uses DEX as a primary stat, which currently only ranged DPS and Ninja use. Of course, they could be a DEX-user and not necessarily be an agile fighter - I mean, even the STR-based melee DPS are all pretty swift and agile in their own ways - but it makes my brain feel good to imagine the saber-and-pistol swashbuckler we never got in WoW (outlaw doesn't count because it still dual wields swords).

However, if you want my personal opinion, I think something like a spellfencer or runeblade would be incredible, and that's not just my battlemage bias talking. Red Mage sort of toes the line of spell-fencing, but ultimately it just kind of feels like a caster with a melee burst phase. Paladin gets a bit closer, but goes in the opposite direction - a melee with a magic burst phase. I want to seamlessly weave spells and swordplay, and ironically - or perhaps prophetically - Ninja is perhaps the only melee class to do so at present. Now, I'm not saying the new job should have to stop combat to cast spells, but being able to weave magic into your attacks or between them, rather than primarily being a caster or melee who happens to cast three spells before going back to meleeing or vice versa.

Imagine if the same job was both the new melee DPS and the new caster DPS though, how wild would that be? lmao
