so I decided to post them. and apparently their entire life stories too, jesus.
First we have Sindri Starlight, a Black Mage fueled by a voidsent sealed inside him via that tattoo on his face. He's very meek and shy, doesn't let people get close too quickly because he's the reason his village burned down, due to the voidsent claiming control of him in a moment of weakness. Because of that, he absolutely refuses to use any form of fire magic, preferring to only cast Blizzard and Thunder spells. At first, he doesn't acknowledge the voidsent within him at all, even being afraid of it in the rare instances they interact within his headspace. He simply lets the ward do its thing, and is content to just live a normal adventuring life, helping people wherever he can in an attempt to atone for his past sins.
That is, until he meets a rider by the name of Isaac Larsen (which is actually the pseudonym of Garlean outlaw Isaiah viator Leorius), who recognizes the boy's struggle with the Voidsent and tells him of two distinct paths he could choose: That of the Reaper - communion and symbiosis with it - or that of the Dark Knight[^1] - subjugation and control of it. Still too afraid of his demon to ever give it control over him, Sindri chooses the path of the Dark Knight at first, drawing upon the Voidsent's abyssal magics and twisting them from something abhorrent into a source of protection - turning the very power he once used to destroy into a tool to defend his friends and allies with. Over time, though, his willpower and confidence grow to a point where the demon takes notice, and through this new respect the two are able to eventually come to a mutual agreement. The ultimate symbol of this being the voidsent giving Sindri his true name: Caemus. Now, their relationship is more akin to an older brother constantly teasing his more reserved sibling, but always helping out when the need is great.
Second is Tormod "Tormi" Freewind, a former spearhunter from Golmore who was exiled for breaking the Green Word, so he traveled to live in Dalmasca. From there, the Garlean Empire took over, and Tormi discovered he was something of a magitek savant. However, the Garleans were none too happy to find a "savage" such as he taking to their machines so easily, and so he was punished repeatedly for his interest. His creativity thus stifled, Tormi instead worked on a secret project: A rocket-propelled spear that would allow him to escape the Empire. That fleeting taste of the sky was all he needed, and so he took up the name 'Freewind' as both an indicator of his goal and a reminder that it was the wind that freed him. He would eventually meet up with the Garlond Ironworks, and though he found decent work there, it was ultimately unfulfilling. Tormi dreamed of true freedom, and to that end his pursuits led him to the Skysteel Manufactory, whose creed of 'giving all folk the freedom to choose their own destiny' resonated deeply with him, and so he opted to lend his talents to the art of machinistry.
While the ideals of Stephanivien and the Manufactory were lofty and admirable, Tormi still felt he was missing something, and it wasn't until he crossed paths with the Redbills that he rediscovered what that was. Throughout his time in Eorzea, Tormi appeared happy and cheerful, but was ultimately untrusting of anybody due to the pains of his past - the smile was merely a facade he adopted to keep everyone at arm's length and mask his true emotions. When he joined up with the Redbills, though, and they gave him that taste of true freedom once more, Tormi finally learned how to trust others again, and over time his facade melted away until his comrades were able to know the real Tormod. And that is something he will forever be grateful for.
