it's pretty funny watching Google accelerate toward irrelevance by throwing all their capital at Google Gemini, the OS/2 Warp of chatbots.
They made themselves a synonym for knowledge, then decided that knowledge is out and bullshit is in, but they're not even good at bullshitting compared to their competitors.
I find current "AI" trends harmful, of course, but even people who want AI don't want Google's AI.

It really looks to me like a brain drain that started when they fired all the unionized trans employees and people realized that Google is not, in fact, a "good place to work"
or maybe it's unwarrantedly generous to Gemini
I was trying to think of an analogous software product that came from a declining empire, trying desperately to succeed in a field where their competitor is eating their lunch
but OS/2 Warp was "arguably technically superior" to its Microsoft competitor, something that is not true of Gemini
the thing there is, modern Windows is built on the NT chassis, which is pre-Warp OS/2 stolen wholesale when Microsoft backed out of co-development. (courts agreed, which is why OS/2 had a full Windows subsystem until MS somehow got away with claiming 95 was completely novel and not subject to the order.) an entirely different flavor of lunch-eating, lol
