Tempest

So this has turned into yet another new project, but what fun it is to write these, every single time. Not long after 003, I even got invited to post these reviews on Gensokyo Radio. I'm not sure how many people read these but honestly, who cares? I'm not in it for the numbers, I'm just here to talk about what I'm obsessed about.

You ever been in a very specific mood? Something like "I want to listen to something high-energy but also experimental?"

It's amazing how Jerico's Law (ジェリコの法則) is exactly what I think of, every time. This circle has a sound I could only possibly describe as "chaotic high-energy," even on their slower tracks.

Take MAYOIGA for example, from their 2013 album, Arrenged Explosion (not a typo; or at least, I didn't make it). It's not my favorite track from the album (that would be Track 12, Night Driving) but it's pretty representative of what I mean. If I had to genre-classify this, I would call it experimental techno with maybe hints of dubstep, especially around 0:35 and its repeat at 2:08 where you can find the closest thing this song has to a drop.

But honestly, I just refer to it as Jerico style.

Listening to this circle might be a mood thing, definitely not what I'd call one of my go-tos. But when the mood strikes? Definitely one of the most fun Touhou arrange circles there is, and the fact their works are so hard to fit into genres while having such a distinctive sound only adds to it.

Funny note: This album came out at the same time as Double Dealing Character. I can't stop thinking about @stuffman 's Sanae meme.

Yeah, most of my collection is old and I've been playing catch-up for years... but these sounds have to be preserved, damn it.

Feels and vibes

Mayohiga, the lost village where you find Chen in Perfect Cherry Blossom, is effectively a village full of cats. This song is more or less what I imagine you'd get if Chen and a bunch of youkai cats got together on five synthesizers at night and decided to compose a theme song for themselves. It's about as pretty, chaotic, and strangely alluring as a bunch of cats playing music would be.

That, or I've really had cats too much on my mind lately... My two cats want my attention all the damn time, especially when I'm busy.
