Edges broken with a block plane and sandpaper, sanded, and finished with walnut oil.
I was conflicted over how to go about this last step, because I liked the lightness of the unfinished poplar so much and wanted a natural finish, but the oil has barely darkened its color, and it's growing on me. The effect of the walnut oil + poplar puts it right in the color range of bamboo. Kind of has warm tones and live tones at the same time. But the oil is still hardening. It might get glossier, I might do another coat. Might put beeswax on it. I dunno.
