La Chimera (2023), dir. Alice Rohrwacher — rec. by @john-dontario
Everything I could say about this movie has surely been written already, effusively and at length. So good. Much is said of Rohrwacher's magic realism but the magic is like... what the movie does at you.* Maybe that's the same thing.
This is one of those movies that is the most movie thing you have ever seen. I had to stop watching it about 45 minutes in, during the sort of musical interlude, to wait for my partner to come home from a trip so we could watch it together. I knew nothing about the director and will definitely be checking out Happy As Lazzaro sometime.
