big learning moment with the piece on the right.
common wisdom with painting is to stick with the biggest brush you can for as long as you can, but i’ve been finding that i’ve been overzealous about that advice, which leaves me with an unsatisfying level of detail. it’s hard to “push paint around” and layer quite the same way in watercolour/gouache as you can with acryllic or oil. for this piece i intentionally dipped into a size 0 flat brush very early on to draw detail (then wash over it, then reestablish it etc) and i quite like the result!
