Sorry to post on an old post but I was trawling through the tag to see if anyone else was obsessing over Moon Knight. Really like this post and touched on a lot of my own thoughts. Not plural, but have listened to my friends' gripes with its portrayal and like. Everyone has different experiences, its not a monolith you can portray perfectly. Even when representation is handled well, plenty of people within that group won't feel reflected in it.
Where... you have the issue of people getting (justifiably) tired of certain tropes pertaining to their portrayal. But then it becomes "bad writing" to utilize them, and it can kill discussion/interest and it destroys any potential nuance to the situation. And I loathe the attempt to have good representation become a depiction of the model minority. Where everything is perfect and inoffensive, because then it will never feel human. But I think a lot more people can relate to the mess. Where, even if people don't understand how being part of a system works. But when they see Marc removing his alters, they can understand that this is a self-destructive act. They can understand that fucking urge of "christ, i wish my existence was simpler."
This is part of what I really like about McKay's run is because, while Marc is doing a lot better, he is doing so fucking bad at the start of it. And I was wary for a bit until I was able to trust that the author was aware that yes, the behaviours are unhealthy. What the character's doing is a bad idea, we aren't advocating this as healthy. But we can see how he fucking got here. We can understand those human choices that got him into that place?
