im done posting about The Latest Discourse after this, but i think the thing that really bothers me the most about when shit like this blows up is that it always feels like there's zero room for nuance

i dont really use cohost solely for the community - like, i love my friends on here, but most of my friends rn are on tumblr and mastodon. i also dont use it solely because it's got the best doom hashtag for finding a mix between fandomposting and wadsposting, although that's also a big draw. i use it because as a plural system, the way cohost handles different pages is the most intuitive for us out of every social media we've tried.

if you send my alters asks, or ping them, or reply to their posts, i dont get an annoying notification. they can follow separate people from me, and i can follow separate people from them. but we dont have to like, have separate accounts to make that happen. and that last part is important because "just make different accounts!" is often no longer a workaround when your system exceeds how many email addresses you have, and tying things to 10-minute-mail means you can never recover your password... which is infuriating if someone fronts for the first time after Literal Years, and theyre trying to remember what all their logins were.

idk if cohost's alt pages was designed with plurals in mind, but it sure as fuck works the best for us out of every social media - even if some things (like how notifs work) probably make it more annoying for singlets who want to use them more like tumblr sideblogs.

so like, the defensive kickback of "well some of us are defensive of this site because we like it! some of us are defensive because it's useful!" just doesn't make sense to me. i'm not criticizing this site because i don't like it or don't have a use for it. i'm criticizing it because i want it to succeed, because it is uniquely built in a way that works with my system, and i've never really... used a social website that gets that right before. when cohost fails (because all websites fail), it's going to take with it one of the best websites to be plural on, for us at least. so i want to postpone that as long as possible.
