my friend wanted to play some classic Doom but found the initial setup intimidating AND my Doom snobbiness kicked in hardcore, so i put together a ready-to-run starter pack to help make it equal parts painless and tasteful. since Cohost is about to eat it i thought i might as well share the result here, too. i'll take the file down when Cohost goes kaput, assuming copyright cops don't sack it sooner. for now, here's Doom:

this contains the seven major id-related IWADs, three source ports, two useful utilities, the launcher app DoomRunner, and a few vanilla-style enhancement wads, all nicely organized, configured, and ready to play in Windows (sorry, other OS ppl). to get started go to Launchers/Doom Runner and run the app.

the three included Doom flavors are...

So uhh... i went into a special interest fugue yesterday and the night before and made it better yet. new additions ready to play with one click:

  • Sigil and Sigil II
  • Master Levels, Final Doom, and No Rest for the Living
  • Heretic, Hexen, and Strife
    • (these were present as IWADs but not set up before)

and also

  • Roland music packs for almost everything in Crispy and Nugget
    • (why the filesize shot up)
  • Refined several source port configs a bit
    • now your Crispy player name won't be "Passive Lich" (???)

...i guess Crispy Doom bestows a randomized name on first run or something, lol. anyway, big upgrades, much more comprehensive. here's the link:

Definitely worth re-downloading if you got the first version. Go shoot some cacos!

yeah sorry hehe, i figure that's the one thing that will annoy people here. however rebinding is a simple process so i didn't worry much.

for Crispy versions you can just run its corresponding setup application. Nugget has in-game bindings, and GZDoom does too though i didn't bother changing it from defaults. (Crispy and Nugget are the stars here.)

hell yeah!
i might release an update if i get it done in time, i've been busy. in case i don't i rec grabbing the Aliens TC QoL fix here (under Ultimate Doom) and this Horner OST soundtrack WAD (sorely needed, much appreciated!) here! i've also found Nugget can load the TC just by throwing all the WADs + .deh at it, no need for Crispy's merge commands.
