okay so this movie is such a fun watch. like the writing is really thin and there's no like, big setpieces or stuff but like. idk i just felt really compelled by the concept and vibes and the weird ass religious theming of it all. it's kind of a total cult classic
this movie is about fairly basic themes and things but it presents them in such a bizarre and wild way it's really interesting to see. it's also wild how the cyberworld aesthetic and concept presented here is like, still used 40 years after it premiered with barely any changes
the whole thing with the users being gods and the programs revering them and being made in their image is so wild. esp with the religious persecution deal going on too. it's insane that in this film's context tron is a deeply religious warrior monk going on a holy pilgrimage.
the effects are also amazing and the ideas and stuff are so fun. this film still looks really cool today. it gives me big late 90s squaresoft RPG vibes. i kinda adore how alien and bizarre all this is, and like, finding out how the effects were done and how like....oddly fleshed out yet not the cyberworld is shows how invested the staff was on this? but it's also super thin lol. it's a film entirely sustained on the strength of its vibes and that's fine too tbh
tbf i've always loved the cyberworld concept since watching digimon and parts of corrector yui and the mmbn anime as a child so this movie was like laser aimed at me but still. i didn't expect to have so much fun considering this movie is basically one huge tech demo
i get it not being a hit bc this movie is kind of like. completely inaccessible and baffling unless you really fuck with the concept. hell, it's kinda baffling even if you DO fuck with the concept, but it can be a really fun experience, it's oddly compelling!! i had a blast
also how is this a disney movie what the hell
