I feel like it really Says Something About Society when employers ordering drug tests don't understand the question "which drugs do you want to test for?" and are just like "all drugs, obviously."

BRO THERE IS NO OBJECTIVE DEFINITION OF "DRUGNESS." BRO THERE IS NO SOCIAL NOR MEDICAL NOR LEGAL CONSENSUS UPON THIS MATTER. BRO YOUR ONTOLOGY IS SO FUCKED. BRO WE LIVE IN A WORLD OF PHENOMENA NOT CATEGORIES. BRO YOU'RE GRASPING AT THE SHADOWS ON THE CAVE WALL.

the way that we managed to make the word "drug" into a slur in this country is absurd lol. like i remember being D.A.R.E. age and being taught to fear it and going on for several more years of my life thinking of it as straight up only a word for Bad Stuff until i had to, by necessity, discover ibuprofen and read the label

In nursing school they told us to always say "medication" instead of "drug" (except for the Bad Drugs) for this reason - so patients don't refuse ibuprofen because "I don't do drugs"

unfortunately this only reinforces the idea that good drugs and bad drugs are clear and separate categories

prison abolition except for whoever taught retail corporations the "if you have ever smoked a weed in your life, we won't have to pay for fixing your broken toes when you run over your foot with a pallet jack. also you're fired" trick

right yeah, a bit club-penguin-murder.jpg there. mostly they just use MANDATORY DRUG TESTING BEFORE YOU CAN HAVE AN XRAY, MOTHERFUCKER! to intimidate people into either waiving treatment or hiding on-the-job injuries.

we had an employer bring a guy in who had a very serious injury and was literally gray from shock and they insisted he be drug tested before they'd go to the ER.

(we declined and brought him to the ER because oh my god we're not having this guy die in our drug test bathroom, but they were mad about it)

At that point can't you test it the next time he pisses? Like he's in the ER and he's not going anywhere? Or do a blood test while you're doing all that other medical shit?
