Ooooh yep those are the bad flashbacks to the early 2000s when we had a DVD burner but only writable cd-rs
in 2000 I watched The Matrix multiple times in black and white, and only as far as the lobby scene, because that's all that would fit on a single SVCD and I couldn't figure out how to perturb the encoder to get the color to show up. Your guess is as good as mine as to why that was a possible failure mode.
