your regular reminder that libraries fucking slap. they go so fucking hard. they are incredible.
Libraries rock so hard because you can hang out there while you're poor and it doesn't cost you money and you can read a ton of comics for free as well. Just a perfect place
with graphic novels and comics, a longer series will take up so much space on my bookshelf, and i will be reading it for maybe a few hours at most before i finish it, and that just feels kind of pointless and wasteful to buy a copy of a graphic novel for myself!
with poetry, there's the similar tradeoff of the books being really short and me only reading it for a few hours, but also,
- i don't know if i'll even like a poetry book enough to keep it on my shelf at home, and getting it from the library instead takes that consideration out of my mind. if i don't enjoy it i can just return it!!!
- in theory, having a physical place with books clustered together could make finding new books of poetry to read way easier. for various reasons, i haven't actually done much in-library poetry-browsing but i really want to!! poetry is honestly harder to get into reading than writing.
