the thing i never liked about twitter is that it's designed to get me to use it as much as possible for the sake of using it as much as possible
like, when i think of a well-designed tool i think of some thing that tries to get out of my way as much as possible; the less i need to use it the better! i mean, yeah, if i'm using a tool thats because it's useful, but i don't want to be using tools; i'd rather just not have to use them in the first place. the better a tool does its job the less time i have to spend using it
but sites like twitter that try to optimize for engagement are doing exactly the opposite of that; they're trying to induce my dependence on them by cultivating a need for themselves where previously there was none
