I could not get into a popular and otherwise well-written game because is this shit. hire an editor, jesus
it's every other god damn line and my parser keeps having to backtrack and it's driving me up the wall. the credits list multiple playtesters and i'm over here like "did none of them notice. not one"
Commas are for lists, as well as parentheical statements, and they're also for combining related complete sentences using a conjunction!
"They can also be used," they said, "to indicate a break in speech or dialogue!"
They're for separating items in a {list, map, set, tuple} and separating arguments to a function.
After getting a role in an organization that involves a lot of editing punctuation (among other things) I've become the kind of person who pretends that she didn't notice that someone used a hyphen instead of an en-dash. So I'm with you.
i mean yeah but consider: language is defined by its users (descriptivism), not by Official Grammar Rules from The Academy (prescriptivism)
if a silly decides to sometimes use commas instead of periods for elipses ("..."), honestly why not? you could even say it conveys a certain tone in writing!, language is ever evolving
"by its users" in a crowd/democracy sense :( most ppl should be able to understand whats being said, but ok i'll hide away forever now
also this isn't a case of someone being playful with punctuation (which i do all the time) — it's someone who thinks natural pauses are indicated by nothing, and full sentences are separated by commas
