i feel like i should say, because it's come up a few times, i am not a person to ask about breaking out and getting an audience if you're starting totally from scratch. i didn't transition into erotic art/writing as a career until i had already been in the webcomics space for years and years, and even then erotic art/writing started as a hobby i eventually decided i could monetize because i was going to be doing it anyway and i had stories i wanted to tell. i never had to start from scratch.

i can advise on best practices, what generally works, and the ways to best set yourself up for success, but i cannot give you instructions on how to actually achieve it. that is ultimately going to depend on you and your skill and what you want to make. no amount of marketing and social media know-how can make up for getting good at the thing you're trying to do.

the only advice i have in that regard is this: don't start out making art for the purpose of selling it. you aren't going to have a good time. make it for you, first, for the sake of making it. people can tell when you're passionate about something and will respond to that, and the work will be better for it.

and then you can start thinking about selling it. the best work is work you would have wanted to make anyway. profit should not motivate the work as it starts. it should be a side effect of it.
