On macOS you will need Mousecape. It works just fine on my M1 Mac on Sonoma so as long as you have a semi-recent macOS install you should be golden.

Regarding Linux support, any chance you could ask them to add at least 2.0x scale to the Xcursor files? I'm running a mixed DPI setup with 2.0 and 1.0 scale monitors (3840x2160, 1920x1080, both 24"). Xcursor format does support multiple images per cursor, and also multiple sizes.
If they feel like sharing the Inkscape (I guess?) using shell scripts to automate conversion from SVG to PNG to Xcursor, I can try adding multiple resolutions myself and share back.
Here’s what they said when I shared your comment with them
I mean 2x would be the most feasable to do, because all the Windows and MacOS cursors are already 2x the Linux resolution (linux uses the MDPI icons)
So perhaps see if they would be happy creating the Linux cursors from the Windows cur files, that seems the easiest way to go about this?
this is absolutely ridiculous and also I'm now player 4 on my own Mac, so thanks for that
I'm sad that the lowest size of mouse (that I use) crunches the images a little, one size up is perfect tho (windows 11)
The cursor looked scrungly as hell on my Windows PC but the MDPI version included in the archive was smooth. Idk if that’s what you had but just in case
now we just need hardware & software support for rotating the cursor...... the nintendo wii really is the computer of all time
and multiple cursors that use the player one cursor, player two, and so on
