went to the local lgbtq center's trans women and transfem support group. i was pretty excited to meet some other trans women finally! and there were trans women there! but instead of being a support group, it was more like a seminar? they had a woman from a pharmaceutical company give an hour-long presentation on prep. it was basically a really long version of a medication ad on tv. then the last half-hour was a presentation by a non-profit that helps low-income and incarcerated trans folx. which is awesome! but then the support group ended without any support having happened. i wanted to meet people.
like, i walked into the room and the chairs are all arranged into a couple of rows in front of a monitor. and im like surely they're just gonna make a couple of announcements, then we'll rearrange the chairs into a circle and we'll get started. nah
also there was one woman who wasted a lot of time asking some really weird and uncomfortable questions. she asked the pharmaceutical lady if she's aware of the vans parked near the pharmaceutical company building, and if those are employees of the company who aren't being paid enough to afford homes, so they live in those vans. and the lady was just like, i don't know. i am just doing a presentation. but she just kept pushing it until she made her stop.
then later she asked the non-profit people something that i didn't quite catch, but it included the term "biological man" so i mean. yeah.
wild time at the support group tonight.
