what browser vendors imply incognito mode is for: shopping for an anniversary present without your wife finding out :)
what browser vendors intend it for: looking at porn
what it's actually used for: youtube videos that would instantly turn your suggestions into a cesspool if you were logged in, e.g. firearms, military vehicles, the word "degreasing"
what it's actually used for: evading the paywall filter on a major news site that only lets you view like two and a half articles for free every month, when i'm on my phone and can't just use browser extensions for evil
smugness aside it is worth noting clearly for passersby that apple forbids other browsers and ios firefox is literally a wrapper around safari that you can use mozilla pocket and your cloud passwords on if you want
whereas on android, mobile firefox is a distinct browser from chrome that you can install ublock origin in and not see ads on mobile sites
also you can install newpipe instead of the youtube app and get background play and no ads and such
every time i talk shit on iphone it's both actual ideological anger about consumer device rights stuff, and also i am often the designated tech support person for friends/family and whenever i have to deal with an iphone it functions differently and worse/less for no good reason and requires extra effort from me
it's not platform zealotry, it's not corporate fandom (particularly since i hate google at least as much as apple at the company level), it's literally like 20% beliefs about what people should be allowed to do with devices they own and 80% past personal bad experiences
This sums up most of my feelings. I've used iOS previously and adverts just, kill the device so hard, so having a means to block them is huge for usability and battery life.
To be honest I also don't like Android either, my favorite mobile OS was Windows Phone of all things. The live tile UI actually worked well in this scenario and Microsoft was also unusually friendly to people wanting to root/jailbreak their devices. It's just a damn shame that it got forced out of the market...
