Depending on the license used this open sourcing might help dro (the dev of WACUP) improve it.
the winamp announcement is very much written to avoid any language that would suggest it's being open-sourced in any meaningful way other than "we're graciously allowing the community to give us free labor." don't expect them to pick a license that would let anything useful come of it
