Oh man I remember this from when it was new. It left enough of an imprint that probably a decade later I found myself thinking “hey whatever happened to that perpendicular hard drive technology?” and spent a pleasing time going down a Wikipedia hole
As far as I know every hard drive has used perpendicular recording for eons, is that not true?
Yeah I think that's true, I just never heard anyone talk about it after that video, so I had to check and see whether it was "it never went anywhere so you never hear about it" or "it's absolutely pervasive so you never hear about it"
and then I ended up finding some other magnetic storage technologies and learned a bunch of stuff that I absolutely do not remember anymore
