I appreciate the higher detail models in Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary, but man, we did not need these new textures and materials. Looking hand painted was a lot of the beauty of this (and Rayman 2), so going back over and adding realistic skin and cloth textures kind of spoils that. And the new lighting seems to wash out skin tones a lot more often. Nobody is asking for 7% more realism in this art style. Either remake the entire game from scratch (don't) or leave the art direction alone.
Haha, the Switch version has to dumb the new textures back down but it still struggles to hit 30fps.
Good job, Ubisoft.
Yeah, I was watching the DigitalFoundry video on it, and they kept talking about how the textures were a beautiful upgrade but in the side-by-side shots, all I could think was that they seemed like a subjective upgrade, possibly downgrade depending on who was being asked. I didn't exactly feel impressed, and I'm the weirdo who thinks Quake 2 RTX looks amazing even though it does similar. Hardly the worst example I've ever seen, at least...
