i hate it!!!!!!!!! i've tried to get back into tome the last couple years but haven't been able to cause that shit fucking complicated and nobody posts anything on the forums anymoreeeee
it is fucking infuriating
"gee i wonder why our games with literal thousands of hours of shit to do with hundreds of secrets, mechanics, unorthodox builds, unlockables, etc, is only played by a small niche audience? what do you mean you can't find knowledge? search the forums (5 years out of date), search the steam guides (2/3rds of the community doesn't use Steam), or just ask in Discord (social anxiety / discord is nigh fucking unsearchable / discord sucks in general), it's all easily available!"
ToME at least has the ingame chat to clear up any one-off questions, so like, it's not like you need to go out of your way to ask for clarifications on things, and ToME does give you all the information you need (if somewhat obtusely), so it's LESS BAD about it than some, but it's still absolutely guilty of this shit
yupppppp! it ain't the graphics (they work and people have gotten hyped over games with worse) or the price point (absurdly low for the content), i can tell you that! a whole lotta people are not gonna join a discord with Gamers in it, so unless they stumble across a google doc that's recent, they aren't gonna be able to do shit
yeah it technically surfaces things but ik there's some more complicated stuff in there and also like. spending 200 hours figuring out which talent trees my reaver should take doesn't sound fun to most people, especially when the information exists but is hidden hhhhhhhhh
I really wish there was a free, easy wiki that wasn't, well, fandom. all the good ones (dustloop, smw speedrun wiki) are basically self-hosted projects of love and if you don't have someone willing to make and maintain that I do get why it just never gets done. But god discord is so bad as a store of info
wiki.gg is pretty good but fandom has such a tight grip over google search results that folks are pretty much strongarmed into using fandom anyway
it sucks
a community i'm in has been evaluating miraheze.org as a possibility... but it's so silly that just by existing you basically have to threat model against fandom just plagiarizing your work into their shit
