SO. IN NEW MUTANTS 2003. THERE WAS A SCRAPPED PLOT. where xuân would kiss her gf at parents day, and then a bunch of parents would protest the school having gay teachers. some of the parents were mr and mrs borkowski, parents to anole, who would be prompted to come out as gay as a form of counter-protest. his coming out would lead hellion and elixir to literally bully him to suicide, which elixir (and not hellion) would feel remorse for. this was not scrapped early in production either—it may have made it to print before higher ups got cold feet about having a gay kiss on panel (& yes thats what the objection was). i believe that issue 9 is frankensteined together from the original issues 9 and 10 to make the art semi coherent with the new plot—the writers spent their christmas break redoing it. pulling it was an INCREDIBLY LAST MINUTE decision
