i think, in writing dialogue, you should be able to distinguish between hesitation ("...") and A Beat (proposal: " . ")

i write hesitation as “did you know that i like… cheese?” (or “…yes” for emphasizing hesitation heading into the word like it’s hard to say) and A Beat as “i did know you liked cheese. … so anyway here’s wonderwall” which is a lil clunky but is How I Do It™️ so we might just be stuck with it =P
