13 years after announcing his new series, Ken Penders has released the first installment of his Archie Sonic followup, The Lara-Su Chronicles.

In my long-awaited, in-depth review, I answer all your burning questions about how bad it is, how this thing can even exist from a legal standpoint, and what's up with the breastfeeding.

(And, yes, I do also get into Ken's recent announcement that he wants to reprint ALL OF ARCHIE SONIC, the feasibility of which is... complicated.)

in reply to @ponett's post:

it's... yeah, it's a mess. i'm pretty sure this is the dirt he thinks he has on sega that will get them to come back to the table. i didn't wanna get into that in the post because the whole robo-robotnik thing is such a pain in the ass to even explain

"the trajectory of his life is my nightmare" is the exact feeling I get looking at artists like him. someone who'll never put in the time to really learn the craft and will cruise by on eternal mediocrity

wait, he's supposed to be an artist?! he drew for the sonic comic?
i looked at this and thought "yikes, but i guess he's like just a writer who's trying to learn to draw, to do it all by himself" 😬
i also thought "but if he had 13 years to practice, he should have gotten better than this".

as a kid i only ever read the very first issues of the sonic comic, the funny lil adventures with a cute and pleasant style. with the cute cyborg-bunny and all that. so my knowledge of this penders stuff is just whatever i happen to read people saying online.

It has been a while since I dipped into the warm pool of utter insanity that is Ken Penders, still highly disquieting and begets a discomfort that seeps into your bones.

Huh, his artwork has somehow got worse, more grotesque rather than amateur fanartist mostly inspired by anime who needs to work on their skills as defined a lot of his work and people like for some reason.

Christ i wish i liked alcohol because reading about this dogshit thing made me desperate.

"He’s free from the limitations of a monthly licensed comic book for children, free to make whatever creative decisions he wants without editors or other writers or Sega to worry about, free to completely reinvent the series to his heart’s content and finally tell the story of his dreams. And with that opportunity and 13 years of his time, he made… this." this part is unironically why some people need someone over them going, "the hell are you doing. get back on it. what the fuck."

but also, "Who is this for? Maybe this really is a project for no one but Ken." yeah, the dude is just Chris-Chan hired by Sega im pretty sure you hit the nail on the head there.
