so i got my eggbug mug yesterday and i made a vanilla latte in it this morning.
So... a little bit of background on my history with coffee: for most of my life, I thought I didn't like it. I remember having it as a kid and really not liking it. Then I remember having coffee-flavoured stuff and enjoying it. So there was this weird disconnect where I thought I liked the flavour of coffee, even enjoying instant coffee the one time I had it, but not coffee itself. I later on went to try a frappe from a local fast food place, and finding that tasted good as well.
I then had a conversation with a friend about coffee, and they talked about how the hot plates on a coffee maker tends to burn coffee, and you kinda have to have it fresh or it'll get ruined. That lead me to decide I wanted to try it again, but Correct This Time. I got myself a cheap Keurig from the thrift store, cleaned it out thoroughly, then had a cup and... it tasted pretty good. I realized that hey, maybe I actually do like coffee, I just don't like bad coffee.
...Then the next time I had a coffee from it, it didn't taste as good. The cups I made afterwards still didn't taste as good, and it kinda bothered me. Even when I did a rinse with one of their official rinse cups, used bottled water, added sugar and creamer, and yet it still didn't taste alright. I knew good coffee was possible, but it was just out of my reach. I wasn't sure why I was having such trouble replicating that success I previously had.
Recently, I ended up getting some stuff to make lattes. I wanted to see maybe I'd like it better if I made it that way? I tried it yesterday and it was okay, but nothing to write home about, so I got worried. I looked up some videos, though, and realized there were some ways I could prep it better, and that I should also perhaps consider using some vanilla syrup or something. I went out to the store and got some.
So this morning, I finally had all the stuff to make a decent latte, and I looked up some videos to make sure I was doing it right. I used the eggbug mug and... it tasted really good once again. It felt vindicating to have a good cup of something at least coffee-adjacent once again.
I want to think eggbug made it as good as it came out.
