i recently switched to debian a few months ago after getting frustrated with how much windows likes to brick itself, hide useful settings and the control panel from you, how much it tries to sell you microsoft products and ads all the time, the telemetry, the datamining... you get the idea. at some point you'll be thinking "man, windows sucks. i should move to linux." and when you get that thought, imo, you're starting to get to the edge of the diving board and it's up to you to take the dive into the world of linux and do a successful cannonball on the way in.

just look up the different distros and see what features you like! i personally chose debian 12 bookworm because it had a lot of features i like. check out the different desktop environments, i'm using cinnamon, but others are available and you can change the DE any time really. also, if you're having a problem installing something on linux, google it! there's hundreds of old timers willing to help newcomers to linux :) im not an old timer but if you ever need help i can probably help too! i love helping fix software issues.

find one you like, then you can put it on a flash drive and test it out, and if you like it, you can do a clean install on your disk drive, i absolutely noticed a drastic speed and performance increase when i switched!! my computer has never run faster.

when you first get things installing, like discord or a music player, you may hit some road blocks like missing repositories but after you do a few of them you don't have to get new dependencies nearly as much. in fact, i haven't had to touch the repositories in a month or two!

my best wishes to you on your linux journey!
