It's so fucking hilarious to watch, it's just so painfully the result of a Fox boardroom going "oh God, how do we get Gen Z to watch TV dramas" and they end up deciding on pouring everything they can think of together. Make the cast of firefighters diverse to get the young people watching. One of em is trans, tick, one is gay, tick, ones a Muslim woman, tick (they're all great characters for the record) Also the EMS woman is investigating the disappearance of her sister, gotta get the true crime crowd interested. Also the main guy has cancer. Breaking Bad did gangbusters, the kids LOVE old guys with cancer right?
Episode plots range from a fairly realistic (if awfully depicted) kid falling into a grain silo to the firefighters deal with a racist Karen to a pissed delivery guy filling the sandwiches with mercury to basically just beat for beat the Gloria Ramirez case but instead of a Hispanic woman it's a men's rights protestor.
I am on Episode 7 of Season 1.
