Today it looks like we're all naming songs that we like that aren't in English? Perfect! Here's "Ciao Ciao", by La Rappresentante di Lista!
"Ciao Ciao" was an entry for this year's Sanremo song competition (which is how Italy chooses its Eurovision entry but is also, apparently, a big deal in itself). "Ciao Ciao" didn't win, but it did get a lot of attention. I love it, it might be one of my favourite songs of 2022. It's about the end of the world, which is always a great pop song topic anyway. And if the two key subgenres of apocalypse pop are sad girl whispering ("The Greatest", "All The Good Girls Go To Hell") and party time ("Till The World Ends", "1999"), then "Ciao Ciao" is definitely party time. An awkward man announces the end of the world; a singer runs through vignettes of destruction in the verses; and in the chorus, all the different sounds come together, and so do the superficially opposed concepts of dancing and saying goodbye: with your hands, with your feet, with your ass, with your heart, bye bye.
Also, bonus, it includes the words "ciao ciao" a lot at predictable intervals, so even if you don't know any Italian it's fun to join in on.
A friend told me "Ciao Ciao" caused some controversy at Sanremo because it contains a word deemed too rude for the contest, but I can't actually find any evidence of that controversy, though I did find a short remix which is just the "con il culo" line over and over again.
I don't speak Italian, but I've heard this song a LOT this year and I really like it
