Best of luck to the new Ranma 1/2 adaptation, but these present-day revivals tend to lack room for manoeuvre around the source.

The first Urusei Yatsura anime is better for having adapted [recent commercial success Urusei Yatsura], not [beloved classic Urusei Yatsura].

That's not to say that the recent Urusei Yatsura adaptation is somehow terrible! The original's a good comic. And so a competent adaptation, even in the nightmare world of the 2020s anime industry, is fine. But it's only fine.
