As a senior computer toucher I feel like half my life is just telling people "just do the q&d thing and we'll come up with the nice general solution later! don't put in a month of engineering effort to come up with a Perfect General Solution because we'll be throwing it out as soon as someone tries to use it and manages to instantly find the biggest corner you didn't account for!"
i have heard it said many times that all programming issues can be solved by adding or removing a layer of abstraction. but i say, the more the merrier.
all design problems can be solved by adding a layer of abstraction, and all performance problems can be solved by removing one
I didn't even read this as a computers thing tbh. it's just relatable in general
"ah fuck this im just gonna do it the simple way"
2 months later:
"so much fucking repetition i need to abstract"
2 months later:
"wtf is going on here i need to de-abstract"
...
