I see a lot of panic about Gen Z/Gen AA that fears they might all get radicalised by tik tok and all become white supremacist conspiracy theorists but I want to counterpoint that by saying that if people were swayed, unconditionally, by the media environment they grow up around, Millennials would be the most pro-war generation of all time

I guess for me the question is where exactly do we stick the pin in to push the bubble? Because one of the reasons this propaganda eventually failed was specifically because even the Bush government couldn't keep up the lie that Iraq was holding WMDs, and I think the combination of that and the killing of bin Laden during the Obama administration are two of the biggest reasons why the US's Republican party is like that. Like how do you fuck with these guys in a way that basically mandates that they proactively discuss their failures now?

in reply to @thewaether's post:

this is probably my anxiety being a shit but was this inspired by my post about tiktok?

if so I guess I kind of worded it weird. I think that it's not that it's going to turn everyone into nazis, but rather the small handful that are susceptible and have the means to do real world harm.

anyway, yeah. I remember hearing a lot about the Iraq war when I was little (wild how fast time goes) and I do recall at least one classmate talking about how he was gonna b"ecome a military guy and blow up terrorists." but I never really paid much attention to it, I was more interested in hot wheels and mini golf flash games.

idk. I just woke up and now I'm rambling in the comments section of your cohost post. sorry.

oh, I didn't know that post was by you, I think I just read a post about it but also I read something similar on bluesky a few days ago and I've just been thinking about it and had a counterpoint to offer-

...I'm not disagreeing with the original point (I think the internet has a tendency to make everything seem like a good vs bad argument) and I was also worried about tiktok extremism, and in a way I wrote this post to reassure myself

...you didn't word anything weird and you don't have anything to apologise for.
