After watching 1 episode, in rough order of inaneness:

  • It's weird that all the marketing uses the word "introvert" when there's deeper neuroatypical stuff going on here. Bocchi definitely isn't just an introvert
  • The depression colorization is a very neat effect and very effective. At first I thought there was something fucked with HDR when I started playing, but it's just intentionally less vibrant
  • That said, I don't expect too many surprises as I understand I've read the manga past what this season covers
  • Bocchi absolutely has the kind of face that you see and you think "oh I want to give this girl a hug, and provide her with bass accompaniment" [attempts to get his bass but is stabbed by a narration panel labeled 'hasn't touched that bass in TWENTY YEARS']
  • The animation isn't mindblowingly smooth but it is accurate, and I'm glad they took the time to do so. 60% of my motivation to get the series was just to witness that
  • At least another 30% was to hear the songs being performed, which the manga obviously doesn't do. Alas, they fade to black during Bocchi's initial warm-up, and cut the show performance early as well, at least in that first episode.
  • That motherfucker is supposed to have an entire 30K followers online and here I am with only "several"
  • The show understands that no matter how obscure a Japanese youtube video is, there's always gonna be at least one guy commenting something positive about it in English
  • Box gundam cosplay has a new brother-in-arms
