Trying to understand what sort of music "techno-kayo" is and I have a much better understanding of the musical tradition that Aki Hata works in already, to the point that I would almost declare her personally to be major connective tissue between old techno-kayo songs like this and modern idol culture
to be clear this is a slight exaggeration but considering what the most mainstream stuff she's worked on is, she's a massive influence in at least the seiyuu idol stuff due to her involvement with love live as well as a lot of other anime stuff. you listen to her solo work and it's almost exactly the same kind of sound as that track, albeit with fuller instrumentation, at least partly because we have way nicer synthesizers these days. and of course she is pretty prolific but a lot of her more famous work at this point comes from later than the 2000s which leaves a decade or two of the japanese music industry unaccounted for
but I also tend to presume that anyone who was doing video game music in Japan in the 80s was massively influenced by YMO, and compared to many of her contemporaries I thought Hata was one of the few that was as open about a jazz-fusion tradition influencing her work as YMO themselves were. (I mean, Yukihiro Takahashi used to be in The Sadistic Mika Band and they were, as far as I'm concerned, unquestionably jazz fusion)
