the best computer science, like all science, is mad computer science
i'm learning about state machines and grammars in uni! they're so interesting
i think i've always been more interested in these theoretical parts of how computing works! i'd rather read about theory than try to build programs
5am is a bad time do anything ofc, but, yeah, lazy evaluation is very doable! this part of SICP comes to mind
oh shit there's lazy evaluation in sicp???? i've been taking a break from it partway through chapter 1! gonna cover racket in class anyway
yeah!! if you care about lazy evaluation, you'll probably like this awesome blog post about graph reduction: https://amelia.how/posts/the-gmachine-in-detail.html
I think esolangs and tom7's projects (and SIGBOVIK in general) would qualify
my personal brand of mad computer science is putting operating systems on devices that they don't belong on, but these are also good examples. it's a broad field.
Last big thing I did was putting brunch on my thinkpad
oh yeah I remember that. has it been of use, or was it more for the hell of it?
It's very much the "I don't want to cure cancer, I want to turn everyone into dinosaurs" of things I've done with my computers so far
