need to compose a little midi fanfare. little five note thing.
google "online midi sequencer." all the results are full fledged synths with loop based sequencers intended for EDM
google "simple windows midi synth." every single result is either a full fledged synth or has a loop based sequencer intended for EDM
someone says cakewalk is free now. i install it. it opens up, pops 15 notifications that extend off my screen and have to be manually closed. clicking on the piano roll doesn't lay down notes. clicking the keys just zooms them. i click around until i get another piano roll. it has the same problems. i close the app and get two dire popups warning me that closing it without "activating" will cause unspecified problems. i close it anyway. i realize there are still three separate setup programs running. one is trying to install some off brand autotune called melodyne that i didn't ask for. i kill all of it
i open modplug tracker, drag in midi instrument "Pan Pipe" and lay down my five notes. great, that's the sound, but it just sustains forever. oh. openMPT has no concept of envelopes that i can see
i officially no longer have time for this. i open audacity, set it to loopback, hit record, play the pattern in MPT, then select the "fade out" effect. envelope applied. save file, done
this is why I still have anvil studio installed
