every so often I remember that, until literally 2013, doctors insisted that you couldn't have both autism and adhd. so for anyone born before 1995 (like me) it was straight up impossible to get diagnosed with both until adulthood
... when I imagine the world where I was diagnosed with adhd as a kid instead of autism I do not know whether it is better or worse
I was diagnosed with ADHD at ten, and then when I had a bad reaction to the meds they looked at my family history and said "oh, autism actually, no meds needed, lol," a year later, even though the meds were definitely helping with the very real ADHD.
Sooooo I've been trying to handle the ADHD thing unmedicated for the past two decades, which. Has not been great.
Aw dammit I didn't plan for the staring out into the middle distance while in a state of wistfulness and melancholy to be happening during the hour after sleep too
