I felt like it would be pretty silly to have written an extended passage about how Haru Akiyama's manga composition works to convey both a feeling of stress and alienation and a different feeling of relaxation and freedom without actually citing examples. The first two panels are of the main character, after (as we learn later) having had a negative experience at the workplace so bad it was worrying a colleague, discovering a strange passageway that just happened to show up in her kitchen that eventually led to a mystic hot springs resort where that colleague was there. They connect in the mystic world, and then later in reality.
The story may not be a terribly complex one, but I found myself incredibly compelled by the way it was told, through the composition. Her current serialization, translated as "My Blue Garnet", uses similar construction to illustrate characters feeling closed-off from each other and making social connections. That's the one I put in the incredibly long post that I wrote the other day.
The manga in question is たわいもない日曜, published in Galette 17. Scans translate it as "Meaningless Sunday" but たわいもない could also be translated as "trifling", "fleeting", or possibly "ephemeral" in the context of the story. (A reminder that Galette is independent and primarily funded by patrons on Fantia. I currently support at the 1000 yen 'Gold' course as it includes the ability to download every PDF during their publication windows and doesn't include features that, as someone living outside Japan, I wouldn't be able to make use of, like physical printed copies).
