I don't know what exactly it is that the Bar-Kays did to get the incredibly thumpin' bass drum sound in Holy Ghost, but I think the answer might be as simple as probably pairing one of those giant marching bass drums with some kind of bent-down moog hit.
Even if it isn't so simple, way more songs need to do it. Would that I were king to make this a royal decree for all commissioned composers of the empire.
