speaking of deeply annoying podcast ad reads, a few years ago a bunch of shows started getting sponsored by stamps.com. and now my gf and i will launch into a fake ad read anytime the post office is mentioned. i'll be like "hey i gotta go to the post office but i wish i didn't have to... i'm not the only one who hates the post office right?" and she'll be like "don't you just hate the long lines? it's so inconvenient to have to go all the way there and wait around for help. if only there was a better way to handle all your shipping needs at home". we can go on for a few minutes like that. we'll come up with promo codes and everything. and don't get us started on mattresses!
I too have gotten postmodernist about this stuff. Like, if I see Temu stuff, I go, "Temu: It's like the warby-parker of stuff they give you at the dentist after you get your teeth extracted!" or just take an ad read for "java monster" and replace all instances of "java", "coffee", etc. with "cookie".
Other examples:
"Have you ever seen a manzai duo and thought, 'god, I wish there was a worldstar hiphop for this?' Well I have good news for you: FanDuel.com is here!"
"I believe in solidarity with my brethren. Today, we all sit together in comfort. UsUndies. Promo code 'BORATVOICEMYWIFE' for your next undies order half-off. If you know you know."
"Do you want to build your own website, for a good or service that you provide? And thought, like, 'sure, I could use facebook or tumblr for this like a chump. But what if I made my own website from templates that make my site look like it's a page on facebook or tumblr instead?' Well, squarespace is here to help! Use promo code CSSCRIMES at checkout to get 45% off your first user payment info form."
