process for simply watching a bluray: download a program (ok granted i have vlc already but you get it). go to several shady sites and download weirdly named files. run a script to get the program to recognize those files. hope the versions you have aren't outdated, or that you didn't mess up a step somewhere (there's no way to tell)

process for ripping the disc: download a program. go to a forum to get a beta registration key. press a button. wait.

ahh, rip. mine must've been made before then, i doubt it has uhd support either (i don't generally have any of those). from that post it does look like a forthcoming version might have support for them though?

I have an LG WH16NS60 and it's a workhorse and easy to flash to enable UHD. It's a full size internal drive so you'd have to put it in a USB enclosure (check the list of ones that allow flashing). Unfortunately LG stopped making them so the price is going up.
