In a way this is a very good example of the danger of a single story itself; after all, what of the trans people in Nigeria -- who speaks for them?

If it makes you feel better, I have also gone through the arc of seeing her say something neat, and then following up and having to check out really fast
Ngozi Adichie was fr one of my heroes growing up and her book was a big part of what got me into feminism so I was sooo sad when I learned about her terf rhetoric a few years ago. I think I even made a post about it here.... just made me really sad that someone I looked up to in that way could be so shortsighted on forms of oppression she hadn't herself experienced and then double down on it so horribly :(
But that said yeah, it doesn't change how good her talk and book are. If anything... i hope one day she can learn a thing or two from her own writing :L
Yeah, I keep "joking" that I wish Adichie would listen to this great TED talk about how stereotypes are informed and enforced by those in power and that we need to look beyond "the single story" we tell ourselves to find solidarity across racial/gender/etc lines. It's a good talk, maybe Adichie has heard of it!! 😭
Adichie should watch this amazing TED talk about how "the single story" we tell about the Other flattens experiences and dehumanizes people, and that power always shapes such narratives 😭 It's a good talk, idk if she's heard of it!!!!
This is about how I felt out of high school learning about Orson Scott Card
