They don't work for us. They don't! We have every possible bit of evidence for this, from the basic structure of the American political system (and, indeed, bourgeois governments in general, see other western governments for examples) to good, rigorous research. They all say the same thing: "Our" elected officials work for the capitalist class.
If you want even the limited say liberals like to pretend people have in government, you need power. We, as the working class, need a power bloc that can confront the capitalist class directly, and that means organizing. That means a powerful, radical labor movement. That means revolutionary organizations willing and able to fight. That, realistically, means bringing down the pigs in the street.
"Well we can do both" no we can't, because there's only 24 hours in the day. The same people who say "we should do both", or, my favorite, "voting is choosing who you're fighting" will then turn around and complain that there's not enough time in the day, they're too tired, fighting requires energy and resources we don't have. Which is all true! Meaning that these people are lying to you when they contend we can "do both".
You want to be able to "call your representative"? Then you better do the actual ground work to build power for the working class such that they have any reason at all to care. Otherwise that shit is just hopes and prayers.
