I am terminally shy and very frequently use the Like button because there's no combination of words I can compose to someone that doesn't sound wrong or creepy (or spambot-like) when I like something, and I often don't let myself send a message that just says "That's pretty good" or "I like it". I worry a lot about how I am perceived and often would rather +1 something than draw too much attention to myself.
My takeaway from seeing people go on about how the Like button should be removed, or even people who will rant and rave about getting "likes" instead of comments, is this: if you are going to get irate about me clicking a button, then I am going to think twice about whether I even want to interact with you or your posts, because I'll feel like I cannot interact with them in the "right way."
