Find you a diaper that’s comfortable, cute, and cut the way you like it; that hangs low and heavy when it’s wet; and makes the right about of crinkle-noise for your preferences. And make it your DAILY wear. 🧷 (Yes, I'm low-key advocating that everyone wear diapers.)

For me, that’s ABUDiapers’ Plastic PreSchool diapers. 🥰

But let's talk about daily wear…

Today, we’re so spoiled for choice in the adult-diaper and AB/DL market that it can be difficult—even daunting—to approach finding the perfect daily diaper. But there are a few things to remember to pay attention to the following aspects and questions:

  • Price!
  • Cut & Fit.
    • Can you move normally while wearing it?
    • What about with pants on over it?
  • Absorbency Rating (Max SAP content).
  • Will it hide under clothing well?
    • How THICK & WIDE is it in the seat?
    • Is it noisy?
  • Do you need/want odour control?
  • Is it aesthetically pleasing to YOU?
    • Do you like the way it looks when you see yourself in the diaper without any other clothing on?
    • Do you FEEL good wearing it?

These essential details will guide you to the right diaper for YOU. But maybe not the right diaper for someone else, because we’re all different!

Try every diaper out there that piques your interest! Cute ones, plain ones, premium AB/DL diapers, and medical diapers. You may be surprised to find you prefer something you wouldn’t have thought of at the outset. Or you may find that your initial impression was correct. But give yourself the opportunity to find out! 😃

Price
This is pretty self-explanatory, I think. If you're in need or want of a daily diaper, you need to stick to a budget. And finding the Perfect Diaper is great and all, but if you can't afford it, it really isn't useful to you. So, definitely evaluate price as part of the rubric for what you wear.

Cut & Fit
The questions here are does the diaper fit well and comfortably? And, can you move about freely, through your full range of motion, while wearing the diaper? If yes to both, GREAT! If no to either, move on. A diaper with leg cuffs that chafe or cut into your legs after prolonged wear and cause discomfort—while it may be cute and super absorbent and quiet or loud to your taste—is, ultimately, not the right diaper for you.

You need to find a diaper that comes in the proper size for your waist, sits at your hips and covers both your groin and your butt fully (Yes, all the way to the small of your back! You shouldn't have buttcrack showing.), and doesn't sag between your legs while dry (after long enough wear, any and every diaper will sag—especially when wet—but when you put it on, it should be snug against your pubic bone without being uncomfortable).

And, finally, can you fit your pants OVER the diaper? I know some folks like big, extra-goofy, comical diapers, but in reality that style of diaper isn't practical for a daily wear diaper. You may find you need to buy pants a size larger to fit over your diaper, but ideally, you shouldn't need to do so and it shouldn't be obvious you're hiding anything with your pants on.

Absorbency
What is the maximum capacity of the diaper you're evaluating? Do you need a high-volume diaper, or is something in the low-to-mid volume range okay? This is important because it WILL affect the cut and fit of the diaper! You also need to evaluate this properly because if, for example, you're regularly going all day at the office in a single diaper, it needs to be able to handle multiple wettings without leaking. Or, alternatively, if you're comfortable changing in a restroom, etc., you might be more comfortable with a lower capacity diaper. Remember, changing your diaper during daily wear is important, the longer you're dry, the less likely you will be to develop a RASH!

Hiding It
This gets back to the cut and fit discussion a little bit, but the value of thickness has to balance with whether or not you can hide the diaper under your clothes. And this gets to two variables: crotch width and noise.

The crotch width of a diaper will affect a lot of things, but top of mind for hiding the diaper under your clothes is how much of that padding will fold up under your butt and make an awkward and unnatural shape on your butt when you have pants on. This is the biggest and most obvious giveaway to anyone that you're wearing a diaper or a pad of some sort. The wider the crotch width, the worse it will look. The narrower, the easier it will be to hide it.

The stiffness and thickness of the plastic shell will dictate the noise level. Now, for play-play, noise is great. Make all the crinkle-noise you want to! Be obvious. But for daily wear, noise is a big giveaway! So, pay attention to the noise level of the diaper you're evaluating both clothed and unclothed. Does it get muffled enough by clothing? Do you wear keys on your belt that might cover the noise that doesn't get muffled? All things to consider.

Odour Control
Odour control is something to seriously consider in two instances: faecal incontinence and long wear times.

If you are someone who cannot change often throughout your day, and wind up in a long-wear situation, understand that old pee starts to smell bad and that you might not notice it, but other people absolutely will. It doesn't matter how much lotion or powder you use, without odour control in the SAP, you will start to smell like pee until you change your diaper.

The other scenario for needing odour control is faecal incontinence, which is obvious.
Change your diaper as soon as possible, please!

Aesthetics
This one is more important than you might think! If you're new to daily wear for funsies or new to a necessity of daily diapers, it's important to factor this in. If you don't feel good in the diaper, you will not be comfortable. So, find a diaper that you can look at yourself in the mirror wearing with a smile on your face.

Feeling confident and comfortable in and about your diaper will help you relax about it, too. If you're uptight and nervous about your diaper, you may inadvertently draw others' attention to it, which is probably the last thing that you want to do as a daily diaper wearer out in the world. So, jump in front of the mirror in just the diaper and see how you feel! Does it make you smile? Or do you feel a little embarrassed? Is it super babyish all over and rear waistband peek might raise questions at work? Or is it plain and white and not suspicious? (Not that all-white diapers are right for everyone!)

The last thing I'll suggest evaluating is the tapes. Are they refastenable tapes, the single-use tab style, or hook & loop? And can they hold a full diaper for an hour with your normal level of activity on a busy day? Put the diaper though its paces and find out! The last thing you want to happen is to settle on a great diaper and have tape failure constantly plague you.

Now, understand that an occasional tape failure is the life and times of every diaper wearer, as is the occasional leak. So, be prepared for that to happen and have the necessary resources available and at hand for when it does, because it will… eventually. And that really just means: Pack a diaper bag and keep it with you. When I was working in an office, I had one in the car and one in my office, and kept an emergency change in my laptop bag. A simple gym-style duffle bag works great, it doesn't have to be conspicuous or specially designed to be a diaper bag.

Ultimately, finding the Right Diaper for You is all about balancing these aspects and the answers to these questions that are right for you. Balance, because they're all related to one another and more of one thing will affect other things, etc. and visa versa.

That's it! That's the Diaper Dog's guide to finding a Daily Diaper™.

Hope it helps! 🧷
