That yellow actually comes from off-brand sticky notes that I was originally drawing these strips on. At this point I've been drawing this strip digitally but I scanned a hand full of blank sticky notes to use as background paper texture.
That said the approximate hex value for that yellow is #FFFEC7. It did make it into my regular color pallet.
My standard yellow for my strips is #F6F3C1, It isn't from anything, sorta "threw a dart at the color wheel" and got it.
Probably the smarter way of making the choice. I found out that Post-It Note trademarked or something the "Canary Yellow" used on their regular notes. Drew a bunch strops on those before I found out. Technically it just means I'd might need to adjust the hue of those strips if I ever wanted to do a print edition but I have to remember to do that.
It would be considered "fair use" as you are not going and producing a competing product in that color. A trademark on a color like that is for a very specific use case as it's a product brand and indicates the quality of said self adhesive note pad. Art and visual stuff like that is a passion of mine outside drawing silly cartoons about a fox girl that sits on stuff.
Oh, you mist understand me. It isn't a question of fair use, though I wouldn't mind having actually lawyer explain what a "non-traditional single-color trademark" is and how they were able use it to sue Microsoft, it is an issue that M3 is a horrible company with a body count. There is a lot that could be said about all of that but I'll simply say that using their trademarked color in my personal work feels like a moral compromise. If did make art using their color it would be something that makes commentary on the harm the company has committed.
Sorry if that went dark for a lighthearted conversation in a comment section.
