It turns out, if you want to navigate having a "weird" kink or fixation in mixed company and be broadly accepted, the phrase "hey, is this up your alley?" as a preamble to sharing anything with anyone is basically a skeleton key.

Really. That simple. Just ask before getting into anything that could be divisive. That's the key- consent.

This sounds super sarcastic but I am being 100% earnest, this shit is easy to forget

In general, speaking your intent in plain, unambiguous, and unemotional language helps bridge so so so many gaps when it comes to avoiding conflict and confusion. 90% of the conflicts I've ever come into with someone came about because one party or both felt they needed to hide their intent or feelings for some reason or another, when the truth is, you can snuff out most problems early simply by being honest, but kind- treat people like they deserve to be spoken to plainly, treat yourself like someone who deserves to make their thoughts and feelings known- have a soft heart, and the world is a softer place.

I know that sounds reductive, simple, even, but genuinely- treat people like they deserve not to be deceived or given half-truths, treat them with respect and kindness, and your "rough edges" smooth away no matter how strange they may be. I've made a diverse and wonderful group of friends who know the whole of me, even the things they have nothing in common with, and that honestly, respect, and kindness I know plays the biggest part.

YEAH!! I love that so so much, it made me better understand you, your boundaries, where you’re coming from, and that in turn removed ambiguity- sure, there’s always the possibility I can slip up, I’m mortal after all, but it helped so much in understanding a wonderful friend, and I know when there is a misstep, we talk it out 💖
