Ever since Nintendo (stupidly) decided against adding a detailed activity log -- like the one that comes pre-loaded onto every 3DS in existence -- to the Switch OS, I've been tracking the time I spend with games in a more old-school manner.

Whenever I sit down to play a game, I start a timer on my phone. I stop it when I'm done playing (duh), and then I note the lapsed time in a text file I keep on my computer.

I mostly do this because I like seeing how long it takes me to finish a particular game. I also just like tracking how long I spend with the games I play, period.

For the curious, my top four games of 2022 in terms of the total time I spent with them are:

  • Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness (Switch) — 90 hours, 35 minutes
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus (Switch) — 45 hours, 10 minutes
  • The House in Fata Morgana (Switch) — 44 hours, 25 minutes
  • Pocket Card Jockey (3DS) — 34 hours, 30 minutes

To see how much time I spent with the other games I played last year, check out my new blog post.

Although I enjoyed the four or so hours I put into Atlus' Atelier-esque Nora and the Time Studio (aka Nora to Toki no Koubou: Kiri no Mori no Majo) earlier this year, I never finished it. I also failed to finish 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Live A Live, and Skyrim. Read my latest blog post to find out know why I didn't finish these and three other games.

I had such high expectations for Shin Chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation. Yet when it came time to finally play the game, it didn't quite do it for me. I'm hoping it was just bad timing, and that when (if?) I return to Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation in 2023, I fall head over heels in love with it.

Shin Chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation is one of seven games I sadly failed to finish this year, by the way. To find out why, check out my latest blog post.
